October 16: P.S. 170 Hurricane Relief Fund Raiser
On the evening of Thursday, October 5, our school held a Hurricane Relief Fundraiser Performance. The fund raiser was designed around faculty members competing in lip sync battles. Students participated alongside teachers during the battles. We are proud to share that we raised over $6,600 through ticket sales, generous donations, raffle sales, and snack sales. We are so proud that the P.S. 170 community banded together to help those in need. We would like to thank in particular Ms. Kathleen Mui and Mr. Perilli, who coordinated the event. We would also like to thank all the teacher performers, the P.S. 170 staff volunteers, and many business donors in the community. Most of all, we would like to thank all the families who showed up at the evening event and supported our effort! The raised fund has been sent to the Mayor's office, which will relay it to the Hurricane victims.
Sept. 25 2017... Dear Parents,
We were happy seeing many of you at our first PTA meeting last Wednesday. For those of you, who were not able to make to the meeting, I would like to outline here the two major initiatives for this school year. First, we have restructured our weekly instructional program introducing enrichment programs such as the STEM program for grades 2-5 and the Language Enrichment program for grades K-1. This restructure also provides all classroom teachers 45 minutes each day to work with the students, who need additional instruction to master a newly taught lesson. Second, we are introducing PupilPath.com to bring you immediate information regarding your child’s education, from test results, teacher’s concerns, attendance, to upcoming school events, etc. Another letter will be sent to provide you with more specific information on PupilPath.com.
I hope all of you have received a copy of the Parent Handbook, which contains much information about the school and its policies. A school-year calendar in different languages can be found at the back of the handbook. Please refer to the calendar for all school closing dates.
It is very important for your child to come to school every day and on time. To arrive late at school, your child will not only miss valuable instruction but also interrupt others. If you believe that education is important for your child, please bring them to school on time each day and avoid making your vacation plan during the days when school is open.
Our school will be undergoing another construction project this school year. Pointing and partial rebricking will be completed on the old building. Scaffolds will be up soon. Construction work will begin at 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. I urge you to instruct your child not to play around school during afterhours. Safety for our children is always the top concern.
I encourage all of you to spend more time with your children, discuss their school work with them, and stay in touch with their teachers. I wish all of you and your children to have a great and successful school year!
